Litigation Attorney Core Duties and Qualifications

A Litigation Officer is a legal professional in charge of the proceedings in a dispute whose job is to ensure and coordinate the proper flow of the legalities on behalf of the organization and making sure that all legal actions come into agreement with the company’s interests and, at the same time, comply with the regulatory requirements.

These professionals liaise with the law departments of the organizations or outside legal advisors to manage cases from a starting point to disposal.

It is also important for Litigation Attorneys to be able to evaluate legal risks and oversee case files of an organization, or offer contribution in the formulation of legal measures to defend the organization in legal cases along with the following duties and responsibilities:

Track and direct the litigation process to be completed and close the legal timeline and procedures as per the requirements.
Work closely with legal teams to formulate plans for current or probable cases.
Draft, review, and manage such legal documents as necessary for litigation.
Do legal research that lawyers need for case preparation and strategy formulation.
Cooperate with outside counsel, clients, and other parties involved in the cases.
Supervise all cases on trial, as well as, the files that are in the court and have to be accessed or can be put away.
Evaluate possible legal concerns and then come up with measures of reducing the legal vulnerability.
Provide the result of judicial proceedings of what they are and the impact of the case to the top management.

Qualifications And Certifications

Following are the qualifications for the role of Litigation Attorney that are required:

Required bachelor’s degree or equivalent in:

Law (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD)
Legal studies
Related field

Advanced law degree (LLM) or equivalent are preferable.
Professional certifications of Certified Litigation Specialist (CLS), Certified Legal Assistant (CLA), Certified Paralegal (CP) and others are suggested.

Skills And Expertise

3- 5 years of professional experience in litigation, legal research, or case management.
Strong knowledge of MS Office, legal software (LexisNexis, Westlaw, CaseMap) and likewise.
