Chief Operation Officer Core Duties and Qualifications
In the context of the FMCG business, the Chief Operation Officer (COO) is responsible for managing operations within an organization and ensuring that products developed are available in the market. It is the responsibility to plan, coordinate and manage distribution demands to either get an enormous return on investment or achieve operational efficiency and effectiveness in manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, and delivery of the final product to the consumer.
The COO works closely with members from other departments such as sales, marketing and research and development departments so that the operation strategies correspond with the corporate strategies.

- Coordinate with cross-functional team members like suppliers, vendors, etc., for effective operations.
- Work with sales, marketing, and R&D teams to enable production according to demand.
- Control the expenses and expenditures during operations to manage the budget.
- Drive process improvement, technology, and automation to improve efficiency.
- Promote sustainable goals and objectives, mainly in line with resource optimization.
- Analyze the production and logistics projects (KPIs).
- Coach operations team members to create effective high performance.
- Adhere to state regulations, industry rules, health and safety standards, and internal policies.
- Coordinate crisis management and execute possible contingency plans in supply chain issues and business problems.
Qualifications And Certifications
Following are the qualifications for the role of Chief Operations Officer that are required:
- Required bachelor’s degree or equivalent in:
- Business Administration
- Business Management
- Related field
- Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Management, or related field.
- Advanced degrees such as EMBA, MSc, or PhD may be advantageous.
- Professional certifications of Certified Business Manager (CBM), Certified Management Consultant (CMC), Certified Operations Professional (COP), and others are suggested.
Skills And Expertise
